Last week in Kindergarten, we made butterflies!
We read a story called, "Far Flutterby." This is a beautiful book about a caterpillar named cody. He feels gloomy because he is just a boring caterpillar. He wants to be beautiful like a butterfly and leave his home on the ground. He wants to go to the land of "Far Flutterby where God has plans for his creatures to fly." As caterpillars do, Cody goes to sleep in a cocoon and wakes up as a beautiful butterfly. This story's moral is about how God has a plan for each and every one of us, even if it doesn't feel like it. Eventually, we will all find our way in life!
Then, we watched a youtube video about butterflies! Then, we took our butterfly and painted it... but we only put paint on half of the butterfly! Read below how we made our butterflies:
- First, we took our butterfly on our piece of paper and folded it in half
- Then, we chose a side to paint on (either right or left - not both)
- After that, we decorated half of our butterfly with all sorts of colours using paint and a paint brush
- We then folded our butterfly in half and pushed lightly on the paint to transfer the paint to the opposite side
- We opened our butterfly to reveal a beautifully symmetrical butterfly!
After that, we let out butterflies dry, glued them to construction paper (for strength and for colourful wings), cut them out, laminated them, cut them out again, and then folded them in half and stapled them to our bulletin board. We had a lot of fun making our butterflies!
