Flower, Stem, Leaves and Roots

Yesterday we learned all about the parts of a plant. We learned this wonderful song and talked about the different parts of a plant and what plants need to grow! 

Then, we had some students act out being a plant, the sun, and rain. The girl crouched down is a small seed beginning to grow into a flower. The boy in the red sweater is the "sun" and he shines on her so her leaves can make food from the sun's energy. Then, the boy the blue shirt is "rain" and he rains down on the plant so she can drink up the water and grow big and tall. 

Afterwards, we did a mimio activity where the students have to click on the correct parts of the flower. If they were right, the word turned "green" and if they guessed wrong, the word turned "red." 

We are learning to read, so we could figure out what the words are by figuring out the beginning sound. For example, if we knew the answer was "stem" we figure out what sound we hear at the beginning.... "sssssssss" that would be an "s." So we know the answer begins with an "s."
